Bios

Sanda Krevass returns to the drag world after a long retirement. She has been in the ALPS servicing a group of Monks, singing them music and healing their sick. Now she returns to hopefully entertain you tonight. Sandra would like to thank Groovy Katz salon on First Avenue in Iowa City (groovykatz.com) and especially her personal stylist Hailey Cahill for making her look beautiful tonight...

Christine Hands currently attends the University of Iowa where she is earning her BFA in dance and her BA in English. She performs for faculty and student choreographers as well as Travelers Dance. This is only her third performance with Travelers, and she is thrilled to be onstage with them again! A well-established bookworm, Christine is working on her honors thesis in dance, incorporating theoretical research as well as choreography. She choreographs for Mt. Vernon High School and teaches for the University of Iowa Dance Forum. She enjoys feeding her roommate's fish and cooking muffins in her spare time. Jason Schadt is studying dance performance in the M.F.A. program at the University of Iowa. This is his first year with Travelers Dance. Jason's professional background is originally in Japanese and Foreign Language Education, which introduced him to dance during a trip to Okinawa in 1999. After returning to the U.S. to continue his linguistic studies, he began train in dance the University of Iowa. In 2004, during a year abroad at the Graduate College at Meiji University, in Tokyo, Japan, Jason continued his exploration of movement with teachers including Kazue Tsukano. Now, in addition to his work in dance, he continues to teach Japanese each summer for the Upward Bound Project, a federal Trio program. Jason's graduate thesis performance will be held April 17-19, 8PM, 2008 in Space Place Theater. Contact: jason-schadt@uiowa.edu

She is a founding member of Rage Theatrics, which will produce "Your Swash is Unbuckled: Three Pirate Plays by Jeff Goode" at the upcoming Iowa Fringe Fest in Des Moines, July 19-21. Rage will also collaborate with Dreamwell Theatre and the Englert Theatre to bring both companies Fringe Fest pieces to Iowa City on July 28, 8 p.m. at the Englert - hope to see you there! Chris Okiishi -- Chris is pleased to be a part of this evening's show having recently hidden behind the scenes. An avid theater aficionado, he can think of no happier place to be than in a performance space with the possible exception of his happy home. But then again, performances occur there all the time...

Marcia Hughes, featuring Jenifer McVay on the piano

Marcia Hughes performs extensively throughout the Corridor. In Iowa City, she has appeared at Riverside Theatre and with the City Circle Acting Company where favorite roles include Mama Rose (GYPSY), Woman 1 (I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change) and Reverend Mother (Nunsense II). Marcia has also been featured with the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra, Vanguard Jazz Collective, I-380 Express, and Rod Pierson Big Band. Her community outreach performances have helped to support the Variety Club, Hospice, the RapidsAIDS Project, the America's Junior Miss Program, Pathways of Iowa City, and several area education and arts organizations. Marcia is the Community Relations Specialist for the Cedar Rapids Community School District.

Marcia is accompanied tonight by Jenifer McVay. Jenifer teaches grades 2-8 General and Vocal Music at Wilson School in Cedar Rapids. Prior to her current position, she was a high school vocal music director for 15 years, teaching at Regis, Xavier and Washington high schools in Cedar Rapids. Jenifer is a pianist and organist at St. Jude Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids and accompanies soloists, ensembles and productions in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area. She has been associated with Riverside Theatre of Iowa City, where her credits include The Last Five Years and Riverside Cabaret. Marcia and Jenifer will appear this fall in Riverside Theatre's revival production of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change.

Nora Garda is a dancer, chemist, performer, videographer, and dance instructor who was educated in Argentina and the USA. Trained in ballet, modern, jazz, and Spanish dance, Nora teaches dance and drama workshops and Dance Labs in schools, community and senior centers -besides non-stop performing. Nora produced Iowa Dance Fest –spring 2007.
